Many find the Pre Trip intimidating at first. To be honest, it is usually the most stressful part of test day. But it is extremely rare that someone does not get their license because they failed the pre trip test. What follows is a series of pages that lay out step by step what and how to do the inspection. Take your time as you go through them. Don’t approach it as one big thing you have to master.
Break it down in sections and learn one before moving on to the next. Inside the vehicle is a great place to start, as that is the first thing you will inspect on test day. This section includes start the engine, testing the brakes, identifying various controls, and describing various critical safety items.
After you finish inside and start the exterior inspection the order you approach it does not get scored, but I cannot stress enough that you should follow the same way every time you practice. The order I have arranged the following pages is the order I use to train my new drivers and it has proven to be successful. Give it a try.
The biggest key to success I can give you, and likely the hardest one to keep in mind, is to relax and breath! Remember the riddle “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time”.
