This section covers the the inspection of the braking system.
Your bus will be equipped with either Air or Hydraulic brakes. You must pass the Air Brake test to have the “L” restriction removed from your CDL. This restriction limits you to only driving vehicles equipped with hydraulic braking systems.
Take your time, describe what and how you are testing, and tell the examiner when the test is complete.
In the pages that follow, you will see:
- how to inspect
- what each step tells you about safety
- a suggested way to describe it out loud
How to inspect:
- * Air Brake Check
- Air Gauge and Governor Cutoff
- Air Leakage Rate
- Air Warning Device(s)
- Emergency Brake
- * Hydraulic Brake Check
- Determine Normal Brake Pedal Height
- Leak Test
